To achieve this capacity, you'll want to get the F-450 equipped with the available 176-inch wheelbase and 8-foot box in either 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive. With the 141.6-inch wheelbase and 8-foot box, the Ford F-450 can tow a maximum of 21,200 pounds, which is impressive in its own right.

It even has a maximum gooseneck towing capacity of 37,000 pounds on properly equipped regular cab models.

Powertrain of the 2022 Ford F-450

Armed with the 6.7L V8 Turbo Diesel engine and the TorqShift® 10-speed automatic transmission, this truck has some serious power under the hood.

The F-450 is able to crank out an astonishing, best-in-class 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. To control all that power and make it work the way you need, the transmission includes Selectable Drive Modes, including:

  • Normal
  • Slippery
  • Tow/Haul
  • Eco
  • Deep Sand/Snow

To offer extra control when driving on a decline, the F-450 even comes standard with a diesel engine-exhaust brake. This will restrict the exhaust flow to create back pressure and slow your vehicle with precision.

2021 F-450: Towing Technology and More!

As a powerful truck, the Ford F-450 includes a lot of impressive technology features. Many of these are made to enhance your driving experience, with safety and driver assistance features. There are also plenty of features built to assist with your towing.

The optional BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) will keep a close eye on your blind spots when you're on the road. Since it also includes Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage, it can even watch your trailer's blind spots. Even if your trailer is up to 33 feet long, the 2022 F-450 will be able to watch those blind spots.

The available Trailer Reverse Guidance system can give you a clear view of your trailer's direction. The guidelines will adjust with the direction of the steering wheel to give you an idea of where you're heading.
