An efficient van is essential for a healthy bottom line with your growing business. So, as you look around Indianapolis, Avon, and Plainfield, IN, for your next cargo van, it makes sense that the fuel economy would be an important consideration.

It's no surprise that the Ford Transit Connect can handle serious jobs, but you may be pleased to learn that it can also offer efficient performance. Learn more about this van with the Andy Mohr Truck Center team in this 2022 Ford Transit Connect MPG review.

Transit Connect Fuel Economy

When properly equipped, the Ford Transit Connect can achieve an EPA-estimated 24 city and 28 highway MPG. You can easily sail through your workday with minimal stops for gas when driving the Transit Connect.

You'll reach that rating with the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine model and the 8-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. This model even runs on regular gasoline, which will be extra convenient.

The other available configurations of the Ford Transit Connect achieve slightly different MPG ratings across the board. Some models earn an EPA-estimated 24 city and 27 highway MPG, while others earn an EPA-estimated 20 city and 26 highway MPG.

It all depends on which powertrain configuration you choose for your van. So, consider your options and find one that suits your needs.

Ford Transit Configurations

For the highest fuel economy rating, you'll want a Transit Connect model that comes with the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. This model is capable of some serious feats of power in addition to exceptional fuel economy.

In fact, the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine cranks out up to 162 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque. This engine will also come paired with an 8-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission for smooth shifting abilities on the road.

The other engine you could get is the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. While this offers slightly lower fuel economy-an EPA-estimated 20 city and 26 highway MPG-this engine pumps out more power. With 169 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, you'll feel ready to take on every job the moment you hit the gas.

Performance of the Transit Connect

The performance of the 2022 Transit Connect will vary slightly depending on which of the three core models you choose:

  • Cargo Van SWB (short wheelbase)
  • Cargo Van LWB (long wheelbase)
  • Passenger Wagon LWB

The shorter wheelbase measures 104.8 inches and can handle a maximum payload capacity of 1,510 pounds.

With a longer wheelbase, the Cargo Van LWB and Passenger Wagon LWB will have slightly smoother ride quality. This wheelbase measures 120.6 inches and improves the payload capacity of both models. The Passenger Wagon LWB has a payload capacity of 1,420 pounds, and the Cargo Van LWB has a maximum payload capacity of 1,550 pounds.
